A Poem on the Website of
the Red Dirt Writers Society

A Summer Smile
by Larry D. Foreman (Oct 2007)

I love to walk the garden grounds
When my footprints leave a path
Across the dewy grass.

I hear the jays and mockingbirds
Proclaim their raucous songs
While doves add a gentle mourn.

I walk among the roses thinking,
A rose is like a summer smile
That greets my eyes with love.

Flowers, shrubs, and trees are homes
To moths and bees that draw my eyes
To watch them at their work.

When I am gone and walk no more
Around this garden way,
My memories will be my eyes and ears.
