The Older Couple - Getting to Sleep
by Harriet Morgan (Sep 2009)

They retire to their bed with a nightly kiss and hug.
She turns to her left, he turns to his right,
As they settle down for the night.

His shoulder aches; he rolls first to his back then to his side.
She wiggles and squirms, her neck’s in a bind,
Oh, comfort is so hard to find!

“Would you mind giving my sore back a rub?”, a quiet request.
“Of course not my dear”, she says with a smile.
Her arthritic fingers massage for a while.

She hears him begin softly to snore, a comforting sound.
Now she relaxes, happy as a lark,
Just then a neighbor’s dog starts to bark,
and bark, and bark.....
